We started a company to keep one promise.
Focal Sites builds websites for businesses of every kind — brand new and long-established, first site or fifth. The whole company is organized around a single, unglamorous idea: say what you'll deliver, say when, and then do it.
Why we exist
Software projects have a reputation for running late. We built a company to be the exception.
You've probably heard the story, or lived it: a deposit goes down, the timeline slips, the replies get slower, and a client ends up managing a vendor instead of running their business. It's common enough that many people treat it as weather — something that happens to you, not something anyone decides.
We don't think it's the weather. Late delivery is what happens when scope is vague, when nobody's accountable for the date, and when the contract protects the vendor instead of the client. Each of those is fixable. So we fixed them, and built the company around the fixes.
That's why our process is public, our terms are symmetrical, and our contracts put a number on lateness that costs us, not you. Not because we're generous — because a promise you can't be held to isn't worth making.

What we believe
A few things we hold to.

The date is a commitment, not an estimate.
We agree it once, at the end of discovery, when we actually know what we're building. Then we hold it.

We'd rather turn work down than overpromise.
"If we take it, it gets done" only means something if we sometimes don't take it. Selectivity is how the promise stays true.

The work should prove itself.
Every site we ship is fast, accessible, and technically sound — measurably, not as a claim. This one included. You can test it yourself.

Plain over impressive.
We'd rather tell you something true and useful than something that sounds clever. That goes for our code and our conversations.

Remote by default, in person when it helps.
Most of our work happens online, which keeps us fast and keeps your costs down. But we're real people you can sit across from — when a project calls for it and geography allows, we'll meet face to face.
Where we're going
Websites are where we start.
We're building toward more — custom software, cloud infrastructure, security, the harder problems businesses grow into. This is deliberate: the same standards we hold on websites are the foundation we're laying for everything that comes next. Expect it from us. We'll announce each one here the day we can deliver it to the standard our name is on — because the point of Focal Sites is that when we say we do something, we do it.
